Calling all kids ages 8 - 12 yrs who love to sing! Join the TBYC in January for making great friends and great music!
About Us: The Thunder Bay Youth Choir was co-founded in 2006 by Susan Sutherland and Anton Kozlik. It is a not-for-profit community choir for children ages 8 - 12. The choir emphasizes high musical standards, excellent repertoire, training in music reading and musicianship. In addition, we understand a choir's social nature as committed friends share interests, support each other and grow into mature, capable people. The Directors on our Board are Arja Viik (President), Dr. Glen Colton (Vice-President), Bill Pasternak (Treasurer) and Susan Kelly (Secretary). Susan Sutherland is the Artistic and Musical Director. Who Can Join? Children ages 8 to 12 who love to sing are invited. You do not need to read music, but you do need enthusiam, commitment, and a desire to work as a team player! What Happens at an Audition? Prospective choristers must come prepared to sing "Oh Canada", "Happy Birthday" and a song of their choice a cappella (without accompaniment). Folk songs are good choices (please - no songs that are played on the radio.) Miss Susan will playfully help you explore your range (how high and low you can comfortably sing) and play some echo games to discover some of your musical strengths, and where she might help you improve during our rehearsals. All committed singers will be accepted, space permitting. How Do I Schedule an Audition? Call Susan Sutherland at 345-4552 to schedule a 15 minute appointment. Auditions are held at 1314 Oliver Road (Lakehead Baptist Church, 0.2 km west of the expressway.) When and Where Do We Rehearse? We rehearse in the Music Room at Hammarskjold High School on Wednesday evenings 6:15 - 7:45 pm from mid-September to early May. Performances We perform several times throughout the year at various community events and at seniors' residences. These "sing-outs" are held on Wednesday evenings during our regular rehearsal time, so as not to disrupt family life. This season so far we have performed at Hilldale Gardens Retirement Living and as guests of the Lakehead Choral Group for our December concert! Fees There is no fund raising. For a full season (September - May) for one child, tuition is $275 per season (30 weeks); second and third children in the same family are $175 and $125, respectively. New choristers joining in January have a pro-rated fee of $175 (plus music deposit and uniform). Each chorister must purchase a uniform (red and white baseball shirt with our logo) for $25 which remains theirs to keep. A $50 deposit for use of music is charged the first year of membership, and refunded when all music has been returned in good condition at the conclusion of the chorister's time with us. Space is limited! Call Susan today! 345-4552 |
